K/S/R
Ben Kujawski (Rhodes piano, lap steel, accordion), Abigail Smith (percussion, flute, prepared cassette), and Justin Rhody (violin, guitar, harmonica, prepared cassette) channel a unique synergy in their immersive, genre-blurring improvisations. This recording, captured live at the Light Matter Film Festival (Alfred, NY) on November 3rd, 2024, is more than a concert—it's a multisensory happening, set against a mesmerizing backdrop of dual 16mm film projections and dual 35mm slides. The result is a vivid interplay of tactile acoustics, ephemeral electronics, and speculative nostalgia, blurring the boundaries between sound and sight.
The Tulsa Ball Room Singers
A rotating collective anchored by Justin Rhody (guitar, violin, prepared cassette), Abigail Smith (percussion, flute, prepared cassette), and joined here by Gretchen Korsmo (clarinet, electronics, prepared cassette), The Tulsa Ball Room Singers conjure atmospheric vignettes that evoke lost memories flickering through the projector’s glow. This set, recorded live at No Name Cinema in Santa Fe, NM in November 2023, during rehearsals for the Association of Moving Image Archivists Small Gauge and Amateur Film Symposium, melds haunting melodies with evocative textures—where clarinet weaves alongside tape manipulations and delicate electronics.
Together, K/S/R and The Tulsa Ball Room Singers invite listeners to lose themselves in the liminal space between music, memory, and light—where each performance is both artifact and apparition.
