Bruno Maderna

Bruno Maderna (Venice 1920 - Darmstadt 1973) was a composer and conductor. He studied composition with Alessandro Bustini in Rome and conducting with Hermann Scherchen, through whom he came to twelve-tone technique. In 1955 he founded the Studio di fonologia musicale of Radio Milano with Luciano Berio. He directed the Kranichsteiner Kammerensemble from 1961 to 1966. His works include Musica su due dimensioni (1952), an early combination of acoustic and electronic sound, three oboe concertos (1962-1973), Quadrivium and the opera Satyricon (1973). Mode's Music in Two Dimensions collects his flute works.
