2024 repress. "Red canyon" colored vinyl edition. Year 1964. Almost out of nowhere, a half-known and little-regarded director like Sergio Leone reinterprets a film by Akira Kurosawa in a western key and, putting together all the right pieces that contribute to the making of a film, with a pinch of intuition establishes new rules for the 'spaghetti western' genre, starting an endless series of imitations. "For a Fistful of Dollars" would not have the same impact without the inimitable music by Ennio Morricone, who happened to have been an old elementary school classmate of the director's own. Curiously, two arrangements that Morricone had already worked out two years earlier were chosen for the main themes; with the lyrics removed and Alessandro Alessandroni's unmistakable whistle added, the spaghetti-sound was finally accomplished!

The film was an incredible success, and propelled Leone, Morricone, and especially actor Clint Eastwood into the Olympus of Greats. The soundtrack was not released for the first time until the following year, along with that of Sergio Leone's next work "For a Few Dollars More."

This reissue sees the seven tracks of the original score in a new layout. 12" at 45 rpm / "red canyon" colored vinyl edition / gatefold cover.
