Tokyo, May 1973: Cecil Taylor with Jimmy Lyons and Andrew Cyrille, live before a Japanese audience, in one of the most ferocious documents of his entire discography - Akisakila, two LPs of essentially continuous trio eruption, recorded and released by the Japanese Trio label in honest tribute to what the country had just witnessed. The Unit at this vintage was a single organism with three nervous systems: Lyons's alto the melodic conscience threading Bird through the tempest, Cyrille the polyrhythmic sea with its own tides and weather, Taylor the tectonic engine underneath and above and inside everything at once, for over an hour, without mercy or filler. Japan understood Taylor early, completely and permanently - the 1973 visit was a cultural event, and this Japan-only production is both the proof and the reward, treated by collectors worldwide as the treasure it is.

A monument of live free jazz, among the genre's most intense recordings ever issued. Strong speakers, cleared schedule, no regrets.
