Embryo were the great moving target of the German scene, a Munich collective built around the drummer and vibraphonist Christian Burchard, through which several hundred musicians eventually passed. Bad Heads And Bad Cats (1976, taped the previous autumn) was their first release on the musician-run cooperative April, soon renamed Schneeball, and it leans hard into jazz: the American saxophonist Charlie Mariano out front, Roman Bunka's guitar and Burchard's marimba circling beneath.
Fusion with a restless, worldly edge, a step on the road that would carry the band, a few years later, all the way to India and back. The original April pressing.
