These works established Nordheim as a pioneer of European electronic music, often exploring the human qualities within synthesized sound. Warszawa (1968): Created at the Polish Radio Experimental Studio (Studio Eksperymentalne) in Warsaw. It is characterized by its use of filtered noise and fragments of Polish folk music. Pace (1970): A piece for magnetic tape that utilizes a filter bank to manipulate sound. The title refers to the Latin word for peace. Lux Et Tenebrae (1971): This work was originally created as part of a massive sound installation for the Osaka Expo '70 Scandinavian Pavilion. It features concrete and electronic sounds designed to represent the transition between extremes of light and shadow.
