Juri Camisasca is one of the towering artists of Italy’s remarkable musical avant-garde. Evolving across the 1960’s, 70’s, 80’s, as it continues today, this movement suffered under a long-lasting, one sided isolation - unheard by the world beyond. Recently, under the care of labels like Black Sweat, it has begin to emerge from the shadows, gathering a momentum of marvel and praise. Over the years, beginning with 1974’s legendary La Finestra Dentro, Camisasca has released a slow trickle of carefully considered solo works, led by a profoundly curious and democratic mind and ear - a small but stunning, singular body of organized sound - timeless and without place, drawing on a seemingly infinite pool of culture and history, distilled as a single voice. Across a half century of activity, he has only released five albums under his own name, often leaving more than a decade between - ever working, building the momentum of his own practice, while contributing extensively to, and collaborating within, the efforts of others  - Franco Battiato, Raul Lovisoni / Francesco Messina, Lino Capra Vaccina, and within the short lived super group Telaio Magnetico.

The recordings which make up Evoluzione Interiore, Camisasca’s sixth full length release, are lost artifacts from a crucial period from the composer’s creative development. Recorded at the end of the 1970’s, they fall within the unheard shadows of the period between the release of La Finestra Dentro, and the appearance of his second LP, Te Deum, in 1988. Imbued with a profound sense control, artistry, emotion, and power, they are revelations embedded with the tragedy that the world has been denied access to them for so long - the kind of artistic heights that defy words and description - stunning on every possible count. While Evoluzione Interiore presents inevitable revelation for the listener, they are equally the product of revelations themselves. The mark a shift on the composer’s part, moving away from sound as a creative tool, toward its conceptions as something profound, to be created by - a forward thinking, revolutionary practice, which rests far more closely with those ancient, mystical traditions from which music once grew. Evoluzione Interiore is the product of solitary journey, momentarily capturing a territory which American Minimalists like La Monte Young, Terry Riley, and Pauline Oliveros spent decades hunting for. Across the the double LP’s four sides, Camisasca voice, with an shimmering nod to North Indian Classical music, sketches a series of incredible, stretched melodic passages, accompanied by a lone, droning harmonium for three of the four works, and by Roberto Mazza on Oboe for the remaining - each haunting, beautiful, and imbued with such emotion and depth that the entire cultural history of music seems to be gathered at the root. We’ve seen a lot of incredible archival releases in recent years, but Evoluzione Interiore is the sort that is likely to only some around once in a lifetime. Absolutely astounding on every count. A towering lost series of works by one of the Italian avant-garde’s most important figures. This one is going to go fast. Whatever you do, don’t miss out. Available on Double LP and CD.
