György Ligeti's Lux aeterna (1966), the sixteen-voice canon that Stanley Kubrick used in 2001: A Space Odyssey, opens a programme that sets Ligeti beside his older countryman Zoltán Kodály. From Ligeti come early Hungarian pieces of 1955, the Mátraszentimrei dalok among them, and the late Drei Phantasien nach Friedrich Hölderlin (1982).

Kodály is represented by Este (1904), Esti dal (1938) and the Mátrai képek (1931). DR Vokalensemblet conducted by Marcus Creed, recorded at DR Studio 2 in Copenhagen in January 2020 and September 2021. Hybrid SACD issued by OUR Recordings in 2022.
