Mausoleum is the latest release by David Jackman, following the eight-part David Jackman / Organum Electronics Subscription Series issued by Die Stadt between 2023 and 2025. While continuing concerns explored throughout the Subscription Series, Mausoleum also recalls aspects of earlier Organum recordings such as Horii and Rasa. The spatial placement of sound, use of low frequencies, and distinctive sense of duration remain central to the work.
The recording is built from recurring elements including tanpura, layered bass drones, bells, gongs and sustained organ tones. Carefully positioned and developed over time, these materials form a work that is both highly structured and spacious. Closely related to the Subscription Series yet fully self-contained, Mausoleum stands as an individual work within Jackman's catalogue. Listeners familiar with his recordings may recognize both continuity and subtle indications of new directions.
Although never intended as entertainment in any conventional sense, the album presents a particularly focused balance of form, pacing and sonic detail, resulting in a compelling and immersive listening experience. Artwork and disc design are by Jonathan Coleclough. The release appears under the name Jackman rather than David Jackman or Organum Electronics. Apart from the spine text, Jackman's name does not appear on the packaging, which is built entirely around variations of the word Mausoleum. As with the music itself, the presentation avoids overt narrative or commentary, focusing attention on the work and its construction.
