Rzewski's presence is the most historically loaded - the pianist-composer whose The People United Will Never Be Defeated would shortly become one of the iconic works of political music in the American tradition. A document of a moment when the boundaries between experimental, jazz-influenced, and political music were being actively renegotiated.
