*200 copies limited edition* Nashville-born, Minneapolis-based musician and artist Lee Noble has been active in the American noise underground since the early 2010s. His landmark LP, No Becoming, was originally released on cassette in 2011 via Sweat Lodge Guru (Motion Sickness of Time Travel, Sparkling Wide Pressure), followed by a limited-edition vinyl reissue in 2013 courtesy of Bathetic Records (Angel Olsen, Tashi Dorji, Daniel Bachman). 15 years later, No Becoming has achieved cult-classic status in ambient music circles, capturing Noble’s transition from drone-based works to quasi-psychedelic, avant-pop transmissions. It’s something of an auditory spectacle; eight tracks of ghostly, lo-fi hymns that occupy the space between hauntology and New Weird America.
In celebration of Primordial Void’s eight-year anniversary and serving as the label’s 70th release, we are proud to announce that No Becoming is back on wax at long last. Remastered by A.F. Jones at Laminal Audio in Washington, the album’s unique atmosphere – composed of analog synthesizers, harmonium, Omnichord, guitars, drum machines, and tape recorders – is beautifully preserved. Originally recorded in 2010 in Noble’s bedroom in Echo Park (on a Fostex DMT-8 and live-mixed to DAT, to be exact), No Becoming’s striking moments of ‘70s horror synth (“Cop Show,” “Emotive Cloak”) and alternate-dimension folk (“Fantasy Hair,” “Doesn’t Matter What’s Right”) sound as timeless as ever. Noble is one of the most unique experimental composers working today, and No Becoming remains the perfect introduction to his singular sonic world.
