Super Tip! **30 copies lmited edition. 33rpm one-sided silkscreened lathe-cut clear vinyl disc with no label. Silkscreened artwork from the score of “Prometeo” by Luigi Nono.** Die Schachtel, in collaboration with Archivio Storico Ricordi and MAXXI, Museo nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo of Rome, is proud to present the latest release in its ART Series, dedicated to the publication of art multiples that make use of the vinyl record as the media for creative exploration. Following a stream of previous editions dedicated to such names – among others - as Christina Kubisch or Bruce Nauman, the present one is dedicated to the Italian-born, Berlin-based Rosa Barba, an established artist that engages within the medium of film through a sculptural approach. In her works, Barba creates installations and site-specific interventions to analyze the ways film articulates space, placing the work and the viewer in a new relationship. The Edition insert is part of a larger series of sculptures and prints made with thousands of metal letterpress blocks varying in size, occupying space differently, and organised into a visual rather than alphabetical or linguistic logic — an encryption that formulates the instability of knowledge and suggests the possibility of a new organisation of language by orchestrating its components in an aleatory manner.

In NO-Orchestra con nastro (NO - Orchestra with tape), which premiered at the Palais Populaire in Berlin in 2022, Rosa Barba composes with film, light, sound, and space to create a Gesamtkunstwerk – a synthesis of the arts. Her inspiration came from her research at the Archivio Storico Ricordi in Milan, one of the world’s leading private archives on the History of Opera which houses an extensive collection of documents relating to premieres as well as stage and costume designs, photographs and letters. In this work, Rosa Barba devotes special attention to Luigi Nono’s partitions structures. She uses the visual, musical and sound excerpts to fragment them into another “instrument” consisting of suspended piano strings, a film, and a kinetic pendulum. Drawing from this work, the artist’s record aims to encapsulate in an “editorial” format the different layers and meanings that constitute the installation. The image on the cover is in fact a frame of the video of the work, whilst the graphic sign silkscreened on the vinyl disc is taken from a score (Prometeo) by Luigi Nono.

The audio is a collage of sounds extracted from video and tape recordings, notably snippets and sparse sounds from Nono’s works as well as the early electronic music experiments of the Milan RAI Studio di Fonologia. A relief-ink printed and hand-drawn original edition artwork completes the edition. Rosa Barba Archives are not just static repositories of the past: they can be vibrant organisms in the present. Indeed, documentary sources from earlier times may offer fresh raw material that inspires new meanings. The collaboration with the artist Rosa Barba, promoted by the MAXXI Museum on the occasion of the “Opera Opera - Allegro ma non troppo” exhibition and freely inspired by the materials of Luigi Nono conserved in the Archivio Storico Ricordi, represents a compelling example of this modern idea of an archive." - Pierluigi Ledda
