Music about painting: Egisto Macchi's cues for art documentaries, originally spread across three library LPs and here gathered by Cinedelic in a box. Pittura contemporanea deals with the postwar avant-gardes, Pittura moderna with the earlier twentieth century, and Macchi's method is to compose analogues rather than illustrations, a Fontana slash as a single string glissando, an Informel canvas as a cloud of percussion.

It is a document of how the Roman avant-garde understood the visual arts of its own time, and a reminder that RAI's culture programming once had music like this behind it. Three LPs, notes, out of print.
