Bi Kyo Ran was formed in the 1970s by guitarist Kunio Suma and is one of the founding names of Japanese progressive rock. This third volume of its live archive documents the early 1980s trio, with Masahide Shiratori on bass and twelve-string guitar and Masaaki Nagasawa on drums, both also handling Mellotron and Solina parts, recorded at the Bourbon House in Osaka on 22 March 1983.
Only four pieces, three of them over a quarter of an hour: Warning, the suite Ran and Double, after the brief opening Psycho Part I. Suma's guitar alternates cold, cyclical patterns with violent outbursts, while Mellotron chords open up the slower sections. The debt to the King Crimson of the mid-1970s is clear, and the length of the pieces lets the trio stretch and work them over at length.
