Hiroshi Miyagawa was a jazz arranger and pop composer of the first rank in postwar Japan before he wrote the music for Uchū Senkan Yamato (Space Battleship Yamato, 1974), the animated series that changed Japanese television, and the Symphonic Suite is his own concert rearrangement of the themes: full orchestra, the famous brass march, the scat-vocal theme, the Infinite Space melancholy, recorded by Nippon Columbia with the polish of a film score.
