Bruford, the jazz rock band of drummer Bill Bruford, toured the United States in 1979 without Allan Holdsworth, who had left shortly before. His place went to John Clark, a former pupil of Holdsworth who had played with the progressive group Quasar and who is credited on the sleeve as "the unknown John Clark".
The concert was recorded on 12 July 1979 in Roslyn, New York, and broadcast by the radio station WLIR. Released the same year on EG, it was originally issued only in the United States, Canada and Japan. With Dave Stewart on electric keyboards and Jeff Berlin on bass, the quartet plays material from Feels Good To Me and One Of A Kind, including Hell's Bells, Sample And Hold, Beelzebub and both parts of The Sahara Of Snow, at a looser and more urgent pace than in the studio. Clark's playing follows Holdsworth's lines without copying them.
Japanese CD reissue by Belle Antique, SHM-CD, remastered, in a paper-sleeve mini LP replica with obi and insert, with one bonus track, Manacles.
