Shofar Rags
*In process of stocking. 2022 stock.* Active since the mid-’60s, Alvin Curran is one of America’s most courageous and outrageous musical mavericks. A true forefather to the Downtown scene, his music embraces the dialectics of composition/improvisation, tonality/atonality, minimalism/maximalism, electronic/acoustic and more. Alvin’s use of the Shofar in experimental music making goes as far back as 1988, and this long awaited release features several compositions for Shofar and electronics, rangi…
C Tune
Last copies...Henry Flynt is a seasoned tourist of The World Of The Other Ear and C Tune is his ringing, psychedelic meditation on/from the cosmos. Call it a sonic postcard or call it late night head music or even call it ecstatic minimalism if you have to. On this forty seven plus minute foray, our man Flynt takes his electrified fiddle and blends his droning sonic calisthenics with lonesome swing melodies and high decibel screech to the somnambulistic playing of his expat mathematician pal Mr/…

Live
* Edition of 200 * Convergence was formed in 1976 (and disbanded around 1980), with written music for the ensemble scarce, improvisational sessions became more frequent. Their first few concerts at The Music Gallery had a somewhat haphazard and random mix of students, some of whom didn’t quite get the notion of free improv.  Recorded live at the Music Gallery in September 1979, their instrumentation includes trumpet, trombone, piano, percussion, home-made instruments and toy instruments, which p…
Masks
Double Dagger’s new EP, Masks, continues in this vein, taking up where their acclaimed 2009 full length, More, left off. Masks presents a series of vignettes, ranging from acerbic to facetious to self-reflective, on the facades we build within our lives. Masks contains some of Double Dagger’s most catchy songs to date, yet characteristically the tone of the album encompasses the abrasive and sarcastic as well as the upbeat and closes with a surprisingly delicate instrumental. The EP was recorded…
Tre
Brand new album by the experimental duo made up by Xabier Iriondo and Paolo Cantù. Lots of adjectives could define this album made by Paolo Cantu and Xabier Iriondo, talentuous italian musician who also worked to A Short Apnea, Tasaday, Minute War Madness, Four gardens in one. This project began more by an idea, a conversation or a project but the audio result is impressive.
Ex Aeqo
Their amazing 2nd album!! Paolo Cantù e Xabier Iriondo one more time together for a second chapter following s/t release of 2005 ( read past komareview ), - coming from previous series of free-jazz voltage to a new album somewhat tantric and stoned, untypical altough with kraut explosions (let me cite Kroko): i mean, it's the suicidal well-known sound of Wallace rec - that one wisely well-grounded in its sinister slants - perfect for a quarantine room. Federico Ciappini (formerly from Six Minute…
Parallèles
Reissue of a magnificent, impossible-to-categorize French classic originally released on the hopelessly obscure d'Avantage label in 1976. Pretty much the definition of musical anarchy, "Paralleles" begins with an atonal duo for trombones, wends its was through accompanied poetry readings and cornet solos, vamps into a rap delivered by Vince Taylor (France's answer to Eddie Cochran and Bowie's inspiration for Ziggy Stardust!) on 'Rock N Roll Station' (which Nurse With Wound deconstructed later on…
Fielding
Hala Strana, is a project of LA-based multi-instrumentalist (and multi-instrument builder) Steven R. Smith, who is a member of Jewelled Antler flagship improv psych group Thuja and a solo artist in his own right. Hala Strana is his vehicle for instrumental droned-out Eastern European folk music appreciation/interpretation, and really represents some of his finest work to date. Multitracking turns Steven R. Smith into a one-man village orchestra, playing everything from violin to optigan, bul bul…
Cosmic Debris, Vol.V
The fifth and final volume in the "Cosmic Debris" series of split ART-LP releases set up by the Opalio brothers, aka MY CAT IS AN ALIEN (MCIAA), on their own Opax Records, ends up at its best with the space duo sharing the vinyl surface with the legendary avant-blues guitarist Loren M. Connors. Connors, who can be considered as the last real bluesman on earth, has the rare ability to turn single guitar chords into pure poetry, and don't you think we all need more of that in these dark days? The …
Koncertas Stan Brakhage Prisiminimui
The sixth edition of the SYR series is a live recording of the April 12, 2003 benefit concert held at and for The Anthology Film Archives, the international center for the preservation, study, and exhibition of avant-garde and independent cinema. In addition to screening films for the public, AFA houses a film museum, research library and art gallery. The event, which raised money for the Archives and celebrated the life and work of avant-garde film maker Stan Brakhage, featured Sonic Youth prov…
Volume 1
Live in-person' collaborations between Hototogisu and the BxC. Hototogisu, as you know, are the time-defying duo of Matthew Bower (Skullflower, Ramleh, Sunroof!, Total, etc.) and Marcia Bassett (Double Leopards, GHQ, Zaimph, etc.). For these sessions, Burning Star Core was C. Spencer Yeh, Robert Beatty, and Trevor Tremaine (the latter two being of Hair Police, Eyes and Arms of Smoke, Sick Hour, etc.). Note that the music on this disc is different material from the Heavy Blossom companion volume …
Altar
The “Altar” album is NOT a split album. “Altar” is a collaboration album between sunn 0))) and boris that is a result of both bands conceptualizing, writing and recording the album together as one entity. Both groups have stepped outside their previous sounds and created a wholly unique album that stands on its own unique ground. There are elements of each groups trademark sound within the album but true to each groups progressive and experimental aspects, “Altar” moves into a completely new dim…
Uncode Duello
Uncode Duello is the result of a long period of hard job, careful listenings, readings and visions, studying use of instruments, sounds, dynamics, of newest and oldest machines and technology. But not only. This is “The” record by Cantù and Iriondo, because they have produced and thought by themselves, making treasure of past experiences and putting all into it (SMWM, A Short Apnea, Tasaday, Four Gardens In One) meeting and crashing as it’s necessary for important projects. Twelve years in a "du…
Classical Works II
*In process of stocking. 2022 stock.* In the 1990s David Shea was a regular on the downtown scene working with Anthony Coleman, John Zorn, Zeena Parkins, Shelly Hirsch and many others. Since 1998 he has been living and working in Brussels collaborating with some of Belgium's finest classical musicians, and performing his exciting solo concerts. Classical Works II, his third release on Tzadik, is the definitive document of Shea's new musical direction, bold integrating sampling technology into th…
The Beast
"Smegma man, fucking Smegma. They started the whole damn thing. Sure there was Lee Rocky & some soundeffects 78s that set the crew in motion but screw it.. you wouldn't be blasting The Beast or any Weird Handdrawn LP with rotten ears if it wasn't for this truly motley crew. In high school my sweet momma would give me ten bones a week for lunch, come Monday by noon that shit was blown at the local rec shop. When I only had a couple of raggedy bux left from gripping Zorlac stickers, the only optio…
Antwerpen Live
A follow-up to the works of brass player Jacques Berrocal, Catalogue is about a highly de-structured, crazy music. They fervently use the retro flavour attached to the Sixties, by using famous tracks such as "Be-Bop-A-Lula" or "Avoir Un Bon Copain". "Antwerpen Live" is from 1979, the eponymous album from 1980, "Pénétration" from 1983 & "Insomnie" from 1987. Guitar-player Jean-François Pauvros and drummer Gilbert Artman can also be heard here
Catalogue (LP)
2005 reissue. Released in 1979 in a limited edition on his own d'Avantage label, Catalogue, with its overt theatricality is every bit as wild as the previous Paralleles. Not really jazz, not rock, having nothing to do with contemporary music either, Catalogue is a kind of sonic postcard which features not the group of the same name but instead numerous Jacques Berrocal associates including Potage (co-founder of the d'Avantage label in 1976), Parle, Ferlet, Pauvros and recording engineer Daniel D…
That House We Lived In
It was a long wait, but, 12 years after the fact, Fred Frith put together a live album of his group Keep the Dog, which had previously gone undocumented. Comprised of sax/flute player Jean Derome, guitarist René Lussier, keyboardist/harpist Zeena Parkins, sampling artist Bob Ostertag, and drummer Charles Hayward, Keep the Dog was formed by Frith in 1989 to perform a best-of repertoire of his career and remained his last rock group. By the time of this 1991 European tour, the unit had grown beyon…
Middle of the Moment
Continuing the definitive Fred Frith edition, this is the CD based on Fred’s music for the second film he made with Humbert and Penzel – following nomads – that features, along with Fred’s compositions and re-workings, a restless and gripping unfolding of atmospheric locations, tuareg and other musics, ethongraphic material and times captured. A collage or a soundwork rather than a straightforwardly musical composition, this is a serious and unfairly marginalised piece (because it falls between …
