*2024 stock* "I must say I was surprised when I realized that ‘Elmsfeur’ was on the legendary Finnish Sahko imprint as the album springs to life in a flurry of Lynchian drums, double bass and piano. This was a country mile from the cold, haunted analogue experimentations of Pan Sonic, but the more I listened the more it began to make perfect sense. I could almost imagine waking up in a sleepy North Western American hotel room and this record being piped through a dusty home audio system in the distance, and that’s hardly something you could say about most Sahko releases.

On ‘Elmsfeur’ Bastian Wegner has perfectly conjured up a selection of tracks that while reminiscent of Twin Peaks, don’t totally ape Angelo Badalamenti’s very particular style. Through subtle electronic processes and delicate jazz touches the mood is set and Wegner gives us music perfect for the doomed winter months. Apparently he sent the demo to Sahko in the Spring and they ignored it until winter, when it made more sense. Thank goodness the label saw sense to release it at a time when snow is on the ground, and the tempered smoky sounds can be enjoyed with a glass of port and a cigar.
