LL (Another Timbre at70) chronicles the collaborative project Partial - namely, Chicago experimentalists Noe Cuellar and Joseph Clayton Mills. Commissioned as part of a site-specific installation at Pilsen Vintage and Thrift, the album uses only the sound materials found in the store’s crowded basement: toys, tools, clocks, broken dishes, odd bits of furniture, and personal relics - each object transformed into a sonic protagonist. Across “Marcel” (24:35), “Paul” (15:46), and the miniature “a single Screw of Flesh is all that pins the Soul” (1:57), Cuellar and Mills weave a meticulously crafted soundworld that is both peculiar and poetic.

The process privileges small gesture and intimate resonance. Every scrape, click, and gentle resonance is composed with care, resulting in textures that hum with the history and ambiguity of the objects themselves. At times the duo amplify nearly imperceptible details, drawing the listener’s ear to the grain of everyday things. Just as often, environmental sounds leak into the mix - a reminder that music and the lived world are never quite separate. The music box that closes the album - recorded untouched - serves as a poignant artifact, “allowed to speak with its own voice,” a meditation on the passage of time, and the persistence of memory within inanimate materials.

LL stands as a model of economy and invention. Rather than grand statements, the duo opt for subtle intrigue and tactile exploration, making the thrift store’s surplus vibrate with shadowed meaning. Each track invites immersive listening, revealing a chamber music of ghosts - where every object, action, and fragment possesses its own voice, story, and resonance.
