Iannis Xenakis wrote Oresteïa in 1965-66 for a staging of Aeschylus's trilogy at Ypsilanti, Michigan, for mixed and children's choirs and a small group of winds, percussion and cello. The choirs chant, shout and hammer out the Greek text in raw, archaic blocks, while the instruments add harsh, piercing colours.

In 1987 he added Kassandra for baritone and percussion, sung here by Spyros Sakkas, moving between natural voice and falsetto, with Sylvio Gualda. Recorded at the Musica festival in Strasbourg in October 1987, with L'Ensemble de Basse-Normandie conducted by Dominique Debart. Issued in 1990 in the Salabert Actuels collection, the first complete recording.
