Åke Hodell (1919-2000), a fighter pilot before he became a poet, was one of the central figures of Swedish text-sound composition. Spirit of Ecstasy, composed in 1977 and subtitled racing car opera, sets several speaking voices, among them Bengt Emil Johnson, against engine roars, crowd noise and electronic sound, in a collage about speed and its rituals.
The Way to Nepal, from 1971, is landscape music, a slower electroacoustic journey of drones and recorded sounds that takes up the whole of side B. Issued by Caprice in 1980, with an 8-page square booklet of notes by Bengt Emil Johnson in several languages.
