The Chi Factory's The Kallikatsou Recordings gathers material that Hanyo van Oosterom shaped over many years, drawn from a place that runs through his whole body of work. In the early eighties he lived in the small cave of the Kallikatsou, a mythical rock formation on the Greek island of Patmos, and it was there that the seeds of the Chi project (1983-1986) first took root. From the nineties through to 2006 he kept returning, season after season, gathering field recordings and refining drones, loops and soundscapes on site.

This is the second collection to surface from the period before van Oosterom and Jacobus Derwort formed Chi, a companion to the earlier Bamboo Recordings. Across two long-form pieces, Part One and Part Two, he lets the music breathe and drift: deeply textured, slow-moving ambience that feels less composed than slowly weathered, like something left out in the sea air. It is a calm, immersive listen, and a fitting close to the Chi archival cycle that runs alongside The Original Recordings.
