Two years after Free Action, a different record. The Oimels, MPS 1969, is the Wolfgang Dauner Quintet playing pop: Dauner on piano, organ and voice, Eberhard Weber on bass, cello and voice, Siegfried Schwab on guitar and sitar, Pierre Cavalli on guitar, and Roland Wittich on drums and voice, who also did the cover art with Dauner.

The programme mixes Dauner originals with a Gershwin tune, a traditional, and a Lennon-McCartney song. A RateYourMusic listener puts it plainly: a different kind of jazz-rock, renowned jazz musicians having fun with the pop rock of a gone era. That is the tone, and the sitar and the sung parts place it exactly in 1969, the year of Dauner's Et Cetera and of the Free Orbit sessions in Hamburg.

Not one of Dauner's serious records and not meant to be. For the MPS collector it is the one where the label's house avant-gardist tries the psychedelic pop that Villingen was also recording for Dave Pike and Rolf Kühn that year.
