Paul Nova's career began with Bizarre Unit and the legendary 1981 7" Dancing / Away from the Screaming Car, before he founded Exhibit One Records in 1982 and released a sequence of four highly collectible vinyl records culminating in the LP Trees Without Leaves (1984). His music exists in the lineage of the coldest and most precise British synthesizer pop of the early Mute years, but with a restraint and a melancholy that gives it a character entirely its own. The original Exhibit One pressings remained almost impossible to find and virtually unknown outside a small circle of specialist collectors until VOD's 2012 double LP reissue began to establish his reputation.

This 2CD deluxe trifold digipak (VODCD8), Trees Without Leaves, is the CD version of that reissue, including all four Exhibit One vinyl releases in full, plus over thirty minutes of recently discovered previously unreleased tracks and demos. It adds further material not included on the LP version, making it the most complete overview of Nova's 1982 to 1985 recordings currently available. For those who prefer digital format, or who want the fullest possible picture of the catalogue, this is the essential edition. Edition of 500 copies.
