Two of experimental music's most uncompromising minds, together at last, and never once in direct contact. Kevin Drumm and Taku Unami made Zero Talk without ever speaking to each other. It started in late 2024, when producer Jon Abbey asked Unami to master Drumm's Sheer Hellish Miasma II. Unami was thrilled: Drumm is his favorite musician. Drumm loved the result. Even then, the two never really talked, Abbey spoke to each of them separately. In mid 2025 Abbey proposed a collaborative Erst. Both agreed happily. Still no direct contact. In April and May 2026 the idea became real: three separate one-hour collaborations, each approached a different way. Drumm and Unami did not talk directly at any point in the process.
The result carries that distance inside it, music built across a gap that never closes. Strange, severe, completely absorbing. Highest recommendation.
Recorded at Inside-Out Art Museum, Beijing, China on 25th August 2025. Design by Yuko Zama. Produced by Jon Abbey.
