Recorded January 1974 at Musikstudio 1 in Hamburg-Rahlstedt. The first major-label box of Reich's work and the document that introduced his ensemble to the international classical audience. Steve Reich and Musicians at full strength includes Bob Becker, Russ Hartenberger, Glen Velez, James Preiss, Tim Ferchen, Steve Chambers, Cornelius Cardew (yes, the English Marxist composer of The Great Learning), Ben Harms, Jay Clayton and Joan La Barbara on voice, Leslie Scott on piccolo.

Drumming (1971), nearly ninety minutes across the first two LPs, was Reich's breakthrough work, written after his 1970 visit to Ghana to study with the Ewe drummer Gideon Alorwoyie. Side E carries Six Pianos (1973), side F Music for Mallet Instruments, Voices and Organ (1973). 28-page booklet. Three single-LP cat. numbers (2563 301-303) appear on the individual discs.
