End No End is a duo record by Daniel Kordik on synthesiser and Eddie Prévost on percussion, made in the twelfth-century All Saints Church at High Laver, Essex, near Prévost's home in Matching Tye. It comes out of the weekly improvisation workshop Prévost started in London in November 1999, where Kordik met the trombonist Edward Lucas. In 2013 the two set up the Earshots label, which issued this disc.
Kordik is an electronicist and one of the workshop's long-standing members, while Prévost co-founded AMM in 1965 and has remained its one constant member. The church is familiar ground for both. Kordik and Lucas recorded Prévost there for his solo album Matching Mix, released by Earshots in 2019. The three returned in spring 2019 for the trio High Laver Reflections, issued jointly with Matchless. Reviewing that trio for The Squid's Ear, John Eyles described collective improvisation based on listening, searching and responding, with no player leading. Here the exchange narrows to two voices across five pieces, from the 21-minute A Cake in the Lobby to the five-minute Blending and Resonance. Lucas recorded the session, Rupert Clervaux mastered it, the cover art is by Ross Lambert and the inside notes by N.O. Moore.
Released by Earshots! Recordings in 2024 as EAR023, on CD, and also available from Matchless Recordings.
