1970 re-issue on Mainstream's "Contemporary Sound Series" of the 1962 lLP on Time's superb "Series 2000" curated by Earle Brown with Feldman's seminal early 1960's partly indetermined compositions for solo instruments and Brown's experimental 1950's pieces for small ensembles, performed by David Tudor among others.

condition (record/cover): NM / EX- (minimal ring wear) Gatefold sleeve.

One of the essential documents of the New York School in its earliest documented form. Originally issued on Time Records in 1962 and reissued here on Mainstream Records - Earle Brown's own label - the LP gathers Morton Feldman's Durations series alongside Brown's chamber works. Feldman's four Durations pieces, for varied small ensembles, are performed by David Tudor and an ensemble that includes Philip Kraus on vibraphone and Don Butterfield on tuba - the kind of specificity of casting that the New York School demanded. Brown's contributions - Music For Violin, Cello And Piano, Music For Cello And Piano, and Hodograph I - show a composer whose development of open form and graphic notation was working in parallel with Feldman's own investigations into controlled freedom. A foundational record.
