Celeste were formed in Sanremo in 1972 by Ciro Perrino and Leonardo Lagorio, and their only album of the period, released by Grog in 1976 and often called Principe Di Un Giorno, became a classic of acoustic Italian prog. The group split in 1977. Decades later Perrino revived the name, and Il Risveglio Del Principe came out on Mellow Records in early 2019.
Perrino wrote every piece and plays Mellotron, ARP and Moog synthesizers, Solina, piano, glockenspiel and percussion, and sings. Around him are Mauro Vero on guitars, Francesco Bertone on bass, Enzo Cioffi on drums, Marco Moro on flute and recorder, Andrea De Martini on saxophones, Mariano Dapor on cello and Sergio Caputo on violin, with guests including Alfio Costa on Hammond and the voice of Elisa Montaldo. The mood stays close to the 1976 album: soft, flowing songs where flutes, strings and Mellotron weave long melodic lines over acoustic guitars.
