First visit archive offers previously unreleased recordings of historic and musical importance. "When, in this music, he succeeds in fusing the emotional (translated into its lyrical and dramatic qualities) pas- sage of ritual with the complex architecture of his ensemble’s infrastructural procedures, we have a bridge into Cecil Taylor’s creative spirit, and far beyond." - Art Lange
"I was present at the recordings, sitting in the recording truck in front of Fat Tuesday’s in NYC. The recording was made on 8 track tapes, which I took back to Switzerland and were mixed in May 1980 in the sound studio of Peter Pfister. 4 sets have been recorded February 8 to 10, 1980. 1st set on the 8th pm, 2nd set from 8th pm to 9th am, 3rd set on the 9th pm and the 4th set on the 10th am. The 2nd set has been released as It Is In The Brewing Luminous, which is sold out. In November 2023 the mixed analog tapes were transferred to digital at the Hardstudios in Winterthur by Michael Brändli. Christian C. Dalucas was also present. Set 3 convinced all parties involved including Art Lange, writer of the liner notes. Michael Brändli mastered set 3 for the release as February 9, 1980 I, II & III on this album." - Werner X. Uehlinger
