The classic quartet in Europe at full force, on the French BYG label's live series - the same label that would later document the Paris free jazz exile of 1969, here reaching back to preserve the Coltrane concerts that shook European audiences in the mid-sixties. John Coltrane, McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison and Elvin Jones in concert: longer, hotter, riskier than the studio records, with the European halls giving the band space to build its cathedrals in real time. The touring quartet was arguably the greatest live unit in jazz history, and every honest document of it counts. Japanese BYG pressing.
