After two decades inside Can, Holger Czukay made Movies in 1979, and it sounds like a man delighted to be alone with his tape machines. The method is collage: shortwave radio, dictaphone snippets, French horn, and fragments of borrowed song spliced into buoyant, surreal pop. Cool In The Pool grins; Persian Love was assembled around a voice Czukay plucked from the airwaves, a found singer who never knew he had a hit. Jaki Liebezeit and Michael Karoli lend a hand, but the sensibility is wholly Czukay's, the studio treated as an instrument and the radio as a collaborator.
One of the warmest and funniest records the krautrock diaspora produced. Issued on Harvest.
