Booker Ervin died in July 1970, and three months later the young Danish trombonist Erling Kroner recorded this album, subtitled A Dedication To Booker Ervin, at Spectator Studio in Aalborg on 12 and 13 October. It was Kroner's first record as a leader, and he wrote, arranged and annotated almost all of it.
The band has Michael Hove on alto saxophone, Jon Eriksen on piano and vibraphone, Ole Matthiessen on piano, Jeff Szerbinski on bass and Bent Clausen on drums, with Carsten Meinert producing for Spectator. The modal jazz pieces have wry titles, The Tortured Heavyweight among them, and I've Grown Accustomed To The Race bends a line from My Fair Lady.
