On 1 September 1979 the Instant Composers Pool arrived at the castle of Soncino, near Cremona, for the festival Recitarcantando, and played a set of Misha Mengelberg compositions with two thirds of the orchestra made up of Italians. Mengelberg played piano and Han Bennink percussion and assorted objects; around them were Enrico Rava on trumpet, Giancarlo Schiaffini on trombone, Gianluigi Trovesi, Eugenio Colombo, Baldo Maestri and Renato Geremia on reeds, and Larry Fishkind on tuba.
Mengelberg's titles carry his usual mischief: Brozziman nods to Peter Brötzmann, Islay Malt Jetterburg to whisky, and Where Is The Police? lasts under four minutes. Interplay takes up twelve minutes of side two. Filippo Bianchi and the photographer Roberto Masotti produced the record, which came out on ICP's own label together with the Italian AdLib.
