By Stratosfear (1976) Tangerine Dream had begun letting melody and acoustic color back in. Twelve-string guitar, grand piano, and harmonica, along with a firmer sense of theme, soften the abstraction of the preceding records and point toward the soundtrack work that would occupy them for years.
Purists of the sequencer era sometimes find it too tidy; others hear a band sensibly widening its palette. Either way it is the easiest door into their Virgin run.
