Nonesuch issued this in its Explorer years, an American field recording of African mammals and birds, lions, hyenas, elephants, hippos, the dawn chorus of the savannah, with the label's characteristic full-frequency sound and a sleeve that looks like one of its ethnographic titles. It was aimed at the same buyers, the hi-fi owners who bought Explorer for the sound as much as for the culture.
Heard now, a record of an ecosystem that has since changed beyond recognition, and a fine noise record in its own right. US Nonesuch pressing, H-72056.
