1981 technical audiophile record on Hi-Fi Sound with test sounds for diagnostic testing, cartridge alignment and system calibration of vinyl turntables. Cover eventually 'imitated' by Stereolab.

condition (record/cover): NM / EX

Gatefold sleeve.

Issued by the British magazine Hi-Fi Sound for its readers in the late sixties: a record of tones, sweeps, channel-identification announcements, tracking tests and a few musical excerpts, designed to let the home listener diagnose a turntable and a pair of speakers without instruments. The voice announcing "left channel" in received pronunciation is, half a century on, as evocative as any of the music in this sale.

Test records are the purest form of sound library, sound with no content but itself, and this one is a good, clean example from the golden age of the British hi-fi press. UK pressing, HFS series.
