1978 album on Ariola with beautiful field recordings of bells of West German cathedrals and churches.

The West German commercial version, Heimat in the title, sold to people who had left the villages where the bells still rang: Bavarian and Swabian church bells recorded for Ariola in the sixties and packaged like a Volksmusik record. Together with the Eterna and Melodiya discs it is as good a short course in the Cold War as any documentary: three countries, three relationships to God, one sound.
Heard without the politics it is a fine bell record, warmer and more reverberant than the East German one, with the village acoustics left in. Ariola pressing.
