Frank Lowe had arrived from Memphis by way of San Francisco, made his recording debut on Alice Coltrane's World Galaxy, and was confident enough on his first date as a leader to put the Art Ensemble's Joseph Jarman in the front line beside him. Underneath: a nineteen-year-old William Parker, making his first appearance on record, and Rashid Sinan on drums. A violinist credited only as The Wizard, later identified as Raymond Lee Cheng, saws through the middle of it. "In Trane's Name" occupies an entire side and does not let up once.
