Slapp Happy was formed in Hamburg in the early 1970s by Peter Blegvad, Anthony Moore and Dagmar Krause, and in 1975 merged briefly with Henry Cow for two albums before the trio went separate ways. Ça Va came out on V2 in 1998, the group's first album in 23 years. It was recorded at Helicon Mountain in London with Laurie Latham producing.
Unlike the early records, where session players backed the trio, here the three play everything themselves: Blegvad on guitar, bass and percussion, Moore on keyboards, programming, guitar, baglama, theremin and melodica, Krause singing lead. The songs are short and carefully built, with Blegvad's oblique lyrics and Krause's unmistakable voice over arrangements that lean toward polished pop. Titles include Scarred For Life, King Of Straw and Working At The Ministry.
Two bonus tracks recorded live in London close the disc: Casablanca Moon and Slow Moons Rose.
