"Wide" here means stereo, and the title is a period piece in itself: a 1970s CBS/Sony double album of kayōkyoku hits arranged for a studio ensemble called Crystal Sounds, mixed with the hard left-right separation that Japanese audio shops used to sell amplifiers. Strings on one side, rhythm on the other, tenor sax and vibraphone wandering between them.
The material is the standard mood-kayō repertoire of the day, but the sound is the point: this is demonstration-grade easy listening, made by engineers who knew their customers would be listening on equipment costing more than a car. Gatefold with obi, Japanese pressing.
