Original edition of the 1969 Japan-only live album recorded in 1964 featuring Ron Carter, Tony Williams, Herbie Hancock and Sam Rivers.

Gatefold sleeve. No insert nor obi.

July 14th, 1964, Kohseinenkin Hall, and the only recorded evidence of Sam Rivers playing in the Miles Davis band. Rivers lasted a matter of months and it is easy to hear why the arrangement was temporary and impossible to regret that it happened: he plays with a freedom that the rest of the group is not remotely reaching for, tearing through "So What" while Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter and a twenty-year-old Tony Williams do the extraordinary elastic thing that made this rhythm section famous. Wayne Shorter would arrive two months later and the second great quintet would settle into place. This is the moment just before.

Japanese CBS/Sony pressing, originally issued in Japan only. A genuine one-off in the discography and a very fine live record besides.
