NoBusiness Records is proud to announce the release of New Light, a previously issued live recording featuring three singular figures in the history of free jazz and improvised music: legendary drummer Sunny Murray, multi-instrumentalist Arthur Doyle, and trumpeter Rasul Siddik.
Recorded live at Thelonious in Bordeaux, France, on October 21, 1999, New Light captures an intense and uncompromising meeting of three musicians whose work has consistently challenged convention while expanding the expressive possibilities of jazz. Across four performances, the trio moves freely between explosive collective improvisation, lyrical fragments, raw vocal and instrumental textures, and deeply intuitive interaction.
Murray’s revolutionary drumming provides both propulsion and atmosphere, creating a constantly shifting rhythmic environment. Doyle—heard on tenor saxophone, flute, and voice—brings his unmistakable, searching presence, moving between fragile lyricism and fierce, unrestrained cries. Siddik’s trumpet completes the trio with a powerful and incisive sound, adding another dimension to the music’s restless, open-ended dialogue.
