Popol Vuh was the vehicle of Florian Fricke, a pianist and mystic who had been among the first in Germany to own a large Moog and then, characteristically, largely set it aside for acoustic and devotional music. Seligpreisung (1973) follows the hushed Hosianna Mantra and sets words from the Beatitudes, Fricke himself singing after his regular vocalist stepped away.
Guitar, piano, and percussion build a sound that is sacred without belonging to any one church, the most genuinely spiritual corner of the German underground. This is the Italian PDU pressing.
