Armpit is another Clayton Noone project (along with CJA and the Futurians), this one being (I assume) the oldest of the three. Back when LVD was in its first year or so, Clayton suggested we do a release, but something terrible went wrong and it never happened. Here at long last--at least seven years after the last piece of music was recorded for this album--we finally have a real CD of armpit. Like so many of the people way out in front in the NZ experimental music scene, this is definitely roughly hewn; pure, frantic free-noise taken as a snap-shot, not as a polished, emasculated 'album'. Yes, I think classic Dead C, along with a bunch of HCorp releases--though Armpit seems far more chaotic than those other bands I've referenced here, and it seems as though at any moment the whole thing is about to fall apart, though it never does. Perhaps the most interesting thing about Armpit is that Clayton and the majority of his projects have never seen any major attention (although the Futurians have seen a couple releases on Soft Abuse); and at times one strains to hear whatever it is that makes Clayton so much more difficult than something like Handful of Dust or Fushitsusha; but for whatever reason, this is the first major release of a long ignored noise project well worthy of your attention.
