In 1943 a Swiss chemist accidentally absorbed through his finger-tips a tiny amount of a compound he was researching. Later, he recorded the effects in a journal - a document of the world's very first LSD trip: 'Last Friday, April 16,1943, I was forced to interrupt my work in the laboratory in the middle of the afternoon and proceed home, being affected by a remarkable restlessness, combined with a slight dizziness. At home I lay down and sank into a not unpleasant intoxicated-like condition, characterized by an extremely stimulated imagination. In a dreamlike state, with eyes closed (I found the daylight to be unpleasantly glaring), I perceived an uninterrupted stream of fantastic pictures, extraordinary shapes with intense, kaleidoscopic play of colors. After some two hours this condition faded away.' - Dr. Albert Hofmann - Sandoz Lab Report. 50 years later, in 1993 (the height of the Rave scene in San Francisco) Silent Records released a very special double CD set, curated and produced by Kim Cascone. This was no ordinary release - it was a stellar collection of music from artists paying homage to Albert Hofmann's very first LSD trip. '50 Years of Sunshine received many positive reviews and was praised for being a welcome tribute to the man who changed 20th century human consciousness with a single molecule. The musical homage to Hofmann struck a chord with the public, serving as a reminder to keep the doors of perception open and the creative imagination nourished. Given the bleak times we find ourselves in today, Cascone felt that another tribute to Herr Hofmann was in order. To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the first LSD trip, a batch of etheric lysergic soundscapes were contributed to this project by Kawabata Makoto of Acid Mother's Temple, Robert Wheeler of Pere Ubu, Legendary Pink Dots, Andrew Liles (Nurse With Wound), Andy Rantzen (Pelican Daughter's), various artists from the Silent label and some newer sound artists as well. Consider '70 Years of Sunshine' to be a muchanticipated software update. One that will hopefully make your auditory operating system run smoother and more colorfully. With Kawabata Makoto, Lord Tang, Chihei Hatakeyama, Makyo, Rafael Anton Irisarri, Legendary Pink Dots, Ethernet, Invisible Path, Phil Legard, Andrew Liles, Rapoon, Komora A, (Darius Ciuta), Mike Rooke, Lonely Crowd, Mystical Sun, Mirt, Ceremonial Dagger, Cotton Ferox, Andy Rantzen.
