Vinyl Requiem is the piece that made Philip Jeck's name: a performance for 180 Dansette record players, with visual projections by Lol Sargent, first staged in 1993. Jeck built it from old records found in charity shops and junk sales, layering their loops, crackles and fragments of melody into a slow, collective lament for the format itself.
Touch now issues the music on vinyl for the first time, as a double LP spread across four sides, Vinyl Requiem I to IV. It is a fitting home: Jeck released most of his solo work on Touch, from Surf in 1999 until his death in 2022.
