The work of LA based music-maker John Krausbauer has so much to do with minimalism as with trance music as with soundart experimentation and "performance based" sound forms. And where, as he himself states, the "Trance-Psychedelia is the aim and goal". Firmly rooted in the 60s/70s Minimalist movement of LaMonte Young and The Theater of Eternal Music, as well as the trajectory out of that...(with the likes of Conrad, Flynt, Wada, Palestine, Chatham; Oliveros, Radigue etc etc), "beats" also touch the fields of experimental (or/and, as he said, "experiential") music and doing this strongly recalls the pioneering work of a master of the Italian scene like Pietro Grossi (not by chance the "beats" exactly correspond to Grossi's Battimenti).

This is music that knowingly follows the most radical "avantgarde" traditions, reworking those experiences thru the lenses of decades of art/punk aesthetic sensibility married with the most important issues of conceptualism. Beats is a composition-improvisation for three accordions. Multiple pattern-variations in a closely tuned VHF range produce a dynamic field of beating patterns, difference tones, acoustic phenomena, and inner ear/auditory hallucination.

For those interested in Minimalism and Fluxus, Conceptualism and Sound Art, this will be a really great sonorous trip!

In recent years Krausbauer's focus has been on solo work, involving ritual endurance happenings (live) with voice and violin, accompanied by synth and strobes and on his compositions, mainly concerned with systems-based phasing constructions. He's also member of the Ecstatic Music Band, a collective exploring just tunings with amplified strings at high volumes and long durations, with stroboscopic lighting; The Essentialists, a country-blues-boogie-raga guitar/violin duo; and most recently of the "Minimalist psych-punk" group, Night Collectors.
