The second Affinity volume of European live John Coltrane - more extended quartet explorations from the touring years, the band pushing past the studio versions into wilder and more demanding territory. Elvin Jones in concert was a natural phenomenon, and these European tapes capture the full weather system: the polyrhythmic roar, the whip-crack accents, the impossible sustained intensity underneath Trane's longest flights. Volume Two continues the coursework begun in Volume One, and serious students will want both on the shelf. Japanese pressing, solid and quiet, of an old faithful from the deep-collector canon.
