In 1966 Chris Farlowe took Out Of Time, a Rolling Stones (!) song, to number one in Britain. Four years later he was the singer of Colosseum, and Daughter Of Time, the band's third album, released at the end of 1970 on Vertigo, catches the group mid-change: Clem Clempson on guitar, two bassists in Mark Clarke and Louis Cennamo, Dave Greenslade on organ, piano and vibraphone, Dick Heckstall-Smith on saxophones and Jon Hiseman on drums.
Barbara Thompson, Hiseman's wife, plays flute and saxophones from soprano down to baritone. Neil Ardley wrote brass and string arrangements for Time Lament and the title track, with Harry Beckett on trumpet and flugelhorn in the section, and the band takes on Theme For An Imaginary Western by Jack Bruce and Pete Brown. Side two ends with The Time Machine, eight minutes credited to Hiseman alone.
